A Midsummer Night Sing is an interactive, joyful, inspiring evening of instrumental music and singing by three forward-thinking musicians who meet at the intersection of classical, jazz and improvisation.
The Arise! Collective – Oene van Geel, composer and viola player, Erica Rozendaal, accordion and Laura Bohn, vocals – come together to put their own creative spin on repertoire of centuries-old music from around the world. The music bridges traditional lullabies to classical art songs, sacred chant to folk songs, liturgical hymns to choral songs.
This unique concert invites the listener through original arrangements for accordion, viola and voice and unexpected trio improvisations on familiar classical repertoire. Oene and Erica also set aside their instruments to make forays into some harmony singing. As the program progresses, there will be more and more opportunities for listeners to raise their own voices – for those who wish – in singing together as well. No experience is needed, just curiosity and a desire to sing in a group.
